题目:Radiation damage in the TEM

High-angle elastic scattering of primary electrons produces knock-on damage in the form of the displacement of atoms from their lattice sites within a crystalline specimen, sputtering of atoms from the surface of a specimen, and radiation-enhanced diffusion of atoms along a surface. The inelastic scattering of primaries results in ionization damage (radiolysis), which dominates over knock-on damage in beam-sensitive (e.g. organic) specimens. We will discuss how these processes depend on the TEM accelerating voltage and other parameters, and how specimen damage can be minimized.
